Bex started making music at the age of 6, when she picked up her first drum and joined in west coast drum circles. She was trained classically on piano at age 9, self-taught on guitar at 13, had a love affair with the drum set and lost it all when she penned her first tune. Bex lived, studied, and played shows in B.C.'s Cowichan Valley throughout her teens, before venturing to Nanaimo to take part in the Malapsina University College jazz program as a vocal major.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Episode #66 of Inside Home Recording, to be posted later today, will include an edited interview (about 13 minutes) with radio documentary producer Paolo Pietropaolo, who is based in Vancouver and does most of his work for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's radio network. Here is our complete unedited interview (more than half an hour, 15.3 MB MP3 file), which includes more detail about Paolo's work, as well as a story about a last-minute crashed hard drive that I couldn't fit into the main show. It also features a lot more um-ing and ah-ing from both of us, and some lovely banging and grinding noises from the baristas across the room. There is some very mild coarse language, in case you're using speakers at work or have little kids around.

With host Jowi Taylor and co-producer Chris Brookes, Paolo made The Wire: The Impact of Electricity on Music, an eight-part radio documentary series for CBC Radio. It was awarded a 2006 Peabody Award, a 2005 Prix Italia for Best Work on Music, and the Directors’ Choice Award at the 2005 Third Coast International Audio Festival. Last year, they followed up with The Nerve, which I talked about here before. Paolo also produced and starred in Ciao Torino, a series of vignettes on Northern Italian culture presented as part of CBC Television’s coverage of the 2006 Torino Winter Olympics. Prior to moving to Vancouver, Paolo (who has a degree in music) spent four years performing and recording with the Kiyoshi Nagata Ensemble, Toronto’s leading taiko ensemble, touring all over Eastern North America.

In fact, nothing fundamental about IHR will change (depending on [...]
