Vintage synth #2: Fairlight

August 1st, 2006 by Derek

The Fairlight CMI (Computer Musical Instrument) was immensely expensive ($30,000 or so) back around the turn of the ’80s, so only top-flight recording acts like the Police, Duran Duran, Kate Bush, Yes, and (most notably) Peter Gabriel could afford to put its revolutionary 8-bit sampling and famous ORCH5 “Orchestra Stab” patch to use. Check out Music Thing’s 2004 week-long Fairlight feature for more juicy tidbits on this pioneering instrument.

Well, we don’t have a Fairlight or anything else to give away right now, but we will be running more giveaways in the future. Keep listening to the show (better yet, subscribe) and enter next time.
