Macworld reviews Samson and Blue mics, and publishes Derek
November 7th, 2006 by Derek
Two things about Macworld magazine, one useful to anyone doing home recording on any platform, and the other probably interesting to IHR listeners:
- The magazine reviews the Blue Snowball and Samson C01U USB microphones. They agree with us that both are good microphones for recording interviews and podcasts, but don’t sound quite good enough to recording quality music. I reviewed the Snowball on IHR #17, and used it recently for our interview with Boris Aeven on IHR #26. To hear the traditional XLR version of the C01U, known as the C01, listen to my interview with Corey Denis on IHR #27—I recorded my own voice with that mic.
- Back in the summer, I did some investigating about how to encrypt folders on a Mac to keep files secure, and that turned into an article in the long-running online publication TidBITS. As of today, I’ve also converted it into a small article in the December 2006 issue of Macworld magazine, which is reaching subscribers and newsstands this week. It should appear soon on the current issue page, but you can already read it on its own page. Feel free to pick up the December print magazine too, and check out the “Mobile Mac” section. Buying it would be even better. :)

Oooh. Now at last my May 2006 MacBook is finally obsolete. Not that it doesn’t still do the job, of course.
I’m almost surprised they didn’t do a “Product Red” one.
