Only with Ableton Live?
January 11th, 2007 by Derek

When Paul reviewed Ableton Live 6 on IHR #31, he focused on its use in the studio, but its original purpose was live performance (hence the name).
If you want to see how extraordinary it can be—when combined with remarkable talent, of course—check out this video (QuickTime required) from last year’s NAMM Show of San Francisco artist Kid Beyond, who creates entire multitrack songs completely live, using only a MIDI click pedal controller, an M-Audio interface, a dynamic mic, and a laptop.
Every sound you’ll hear in his music is made with his voice, beatboxing, singing, growling, and so on, and none of it is pre-recorded. Amazing.

I guess you don’t need Ableton, though it helps. Reggie Watts does something similar with just a hardware looper pedal. (Via Jason Kottke.)

Ableton is ‘the man’ as far as a very flexible and fun program. I have made over 4 hours of tutorials and made a free minicourse to anyone interested in learning the power of this program!
