Details

Written, Performed, Arranged and Recorded by Willow Smoke. We originally recorded this song in a much longer form (closer to 5 minutes), with a very different arrangement – It usually has a much slower intro and ramp-up into the heavy stuff. This version was modified specifically for this contest submission, so it would “work” better as the theme for a show.

Everything (guitar, bass and drums) was recorded through my TASCAM US-1800, using SM57′s and Apex overheads. Mixing was done in Cubase 6 with standard Cubase plug-in’s. Just upgraded last week, and learned a few cool tricks while working on this project.

No wookies were harmed during the making of this production.

Nice mix, I especially like the beginning, perfect for a podcast theme song.

I am glad no wookies were harmed during the making of this production.

Agreed! This song rocks! I love the intro!

If there weren’t any wookies harmed, were there any other sci-fi creatures involved?

Glad you guys like it! I’ve always pictured Leon as being some kind of reptilian/lizard man – so I guess that would qualify as a sci-fi creature.

He’s tight with the queen of England and David Icke ;)

Starts off like a wee bit of Stevie Ray Vaughan to start. Like the guitar and I’m a rhythm guy, so like how that comes together too.

Nice drums groove, the change of “feeling” in the middle of the song is the bomb. In general a quite simple… but is good.

Lots going on in this tune. It kept my interest. I particularly enjoy the lack of techno, nice clean rock and roll.

    • When I first thought it was a good idea to get in on the contest I noticed a lot of techno happening, and figured some dirty rock would make for a bit of variety in the contest.

I’m not as happy as I’d like to be with the mix, but I spent most of my available working hours (i.e. until 3 a.m. the two nights before the contest deadline) re-writing and re-tracking guitar parts and tweaking the arrangement. The mix didn’t get its usual TLC.
