Bloopers that made the record

Thanks to the guys at Project Studio Network (via their listener Tom), here is a list of ten bloopers that made it to record—recording or mixing mistakes that didn’t get fixed before mastering the final track.

As you may know from my comments on IHR over the past year or so—and like some of the producers and engineers quoted above—I’m often fond of first takes and mistakes that have a more honest performance. (For instance, I love the Kingsmen’s legendary “Louie Louie,” recorded with a single microphone in one take.) Conversely, it’s often possible to work so hard on a track, and perform so many takes and so much post-processing, that you end up doing nothing but “turd polishing,” as Paul called it last October.

So I don’t always agree that the bloopers listed are necessarily bad, but they’re fun to listen to, and you can make your own decisions.

P.S. HomeTracked is an interesting blog on home recording topics, and I don’t just say that because there are some links to my stuff. :)
