[Play IHR #75 now]

On this 1 hour, 9 minute 75th episode of Inside Home Recording, we beg shamelessly for Podcast Award nominations, Dave tells you how to arrange synth strings, Derek reviews Cakewalk Music Creator 5, we freak out about a speaking piano, and the music industry goes haywire. Please excuse a few audio glitches and background noise in this episode: we had some technical problems with our source audio, and suffered a few delays too. But here’s the show now!

I think that Music Creator sucks, it is the worst piece of garbage out there. I bought it I wish I could bring it back and get a refund. I have had it for over a month and still cant get it to work. The tech support that I have had from Cakewalk is the worst. The worst Tech Support ever and that includes Dell and Gateway and they are way bad. Cakewalk is even worse. When you buy something you expect it to work , and if it doesnt you expect that the company will help and get it to work, not Cakewalk.

Can you not get a refund? It should be possible, especially if you bought it with a credit card.

An artist who doesn’t play or sing is still an artist. Performance is performance. An interesting topic. It seems that the term “Musician” is expanding in the direction of just being an auditory artist, whether performing or not. Instrumentalists and vocalists need not feel threatened by this, as their craft is not being watered down, or under attack. It’s not as if there’s any real substitute for being able to sing or play. There are options, but no substitutes.
I had a similar discussion with a film photographer about digital photography recently. There is a tendency for some artists who specialize in one medium to equate that with the entire sphere, especially where new mediums are concerned.
