Well, I won’t be buying a Presonus interface after that story! I’m looking now at the TC Electronic Impact Twin or the Apogee Duet.

I have nothing against Presonus at all – great sounding stuff and I’m sure I would have gotten some great treatment if I was down in the “lower 48″, but I can’t say I’d buy from them up here again after this debacle…

Update on the kerfuffle – got word back that Backline can’t repair the unit and it needs to go back east. I’m seriously thinking of dropping the repair option and buying a new interface.

Was looking at Focusrite, but they use the same distributor …

Apogee looks like a great option – I’ll have to check out the TC Electronic…

Let us know how you like your new interface! I’ve been looking at the Apogee Duet myself, and it supposedly has great converters.

The TC Electronic IT looks quite promising too.

I like what folks have been saying about the Duet, but what kind of gets me is the unbalanced outs and the fact that all the connectors are on a snake…

I took a look at the only “real” review I could find on the TC unit out on the Sound On Sound. The only thing the guy bashed was the included M40 reverb not having enough “space” algorithms. Seems to have a lot more options in terms of inputs/outputs and other connections than the Duet.

No one seems to rave about the TC pre-amps as much as they do on the Duet, but for my work, most of my stuff is already in the box and if I was going to go for pre-amps, I’d get a dedicated unit to plug into my AI via SPDIF or ADAT.

I’m kinda leaning towards the TC right now, but I’ll wade through some more research before jumping on the “buy” button… :)

Yeah, the Apogee form factor just doesn’t do it for me, with all the cables as a breakout snake like that.
